Birdwatching: White-crowned pigeon

I have always believed this bird to be mystical and magical.  This idea comes to me from its behavior.  Always on guard and alert, never at ease and out in the open.  It seldom ventures out in the open to be seen.

I can’t recall every seing the White-crowned pigeon as much as I do now at this time in my life.  Maybe it is because I love taking photos of birds.  The white-crowned pigeon however doesn’t allow itself to be seen unless it has already studied the photographer or predator closely.

The cooing sounds they make are soothing and reassuring. It might be a warning to  its family to be vigilant, otherwise for the most part it is a quiet bird. While it is hunted for its meat, it is always in groups or pairs.

This bird is one of my favorites.  Melting my heart to make me feel joy whenever it locks eyes with me.  It’s as if they can see deep into my soul.  This is what makes them magical and amazing to me.  They captivate and force me to see beyond the ordinary scenary around me.  I am always amazed to find them.

Sometime I feel that they follow me home  after I’ve been to their habitat.  I;ve never seen them around my home like I do now.  Maybe It’s my imagination or maybe it is a magical bird.  Anyway, they make my home much better!
